Season Three[]

Years later, he returns to French Court with the support of Elisabeth, Queen of Spain. He comes to find out what happens to his father, Christian de Guise, who was supposedly murdered by unknown protestants while in reality being killed by Catherine de' Medici. He also comes to court and marry Claude, who still hasn't forgiven him for their adventure in Florence. Claude finds out he was responsible for the attack on Leith Bayard and tries to kill him.

He is later killed by Catherine de' Medici who writes a suicide note in his stead. When read by Elisabeth, Queen of Spain, she cynically remarks: "Things do not fare well for the de Guises at the Valois court", referring to his father's death.

Personality[]

As confident as he may have appeared, Martel seemed to have a fragile ego.

Physical Appearance[]

Martel had a pleasing appearance. He was polished, prim, and proper, as was expected of nobles like him.

Trivia[]

  • His relationship with Claude mirrors his father's relationship with Claude's mother Catherine de' Medici. Both men had a daliance with the women and return to court years later to court those women. Subsequently, Catherine killed Christian while Claude tried to kill Martel but ultimately had Catherine do it.
    • Both he and his father were murdered for something they didn't do. Martel was killed because Claude thought he killed Leith, while Leith was actually alive. Catherine killed Christian, thinking he had poisoned her and her husband, while actually framed by Antoine de Bourbon.
  • His aunt is Marie de Guise, making Mary Stuart and him first cousins.
