Romantic
Claude de Valois
Claude is his wife. After catching Claude sleeping with a married man in Playing With Fire, Leeza was determined to send her to a convent. However, Stéphane Narcisse negotiated with her and convinced her to allow Claude to lead a non-celibate life. Leeza agreed, but only under the condition that Claude would wed someone immediately.
Eager to marry his family into the royal family, Stéphane volunteered his son, Luc. Luc insisted on meeting Claude first, which paid off as he was smitten with her after their first meeting. Claude was quite taken with him, too, but she remained guarded due to her lingering feelings for Leith.
They ended up marrying and, shortly after, they consummated. In a twist of fate, Leith Bayard returned to the castle the very same night, but Narcisse wouldn't allow him to see Claude and had him locked up in the hope of allowing the pair to seal their marriage. The following morning, Stéphane told Luc of Claude's old flame returning and instructed him to release Leith in order to appear to be a "good man". Luc agreed to do it, not for appearances but because he knew it was the right thing to do.
Upon discovering that her beloved was alive, Claude wanted an out of her marriage with Luc. She knew it would be impossible to override a successful consummation, so she asked Luc to lie and say they failed to consummate. He tried to tell his father, but Stéphane didn't believe him, and without Charles to support their annulment, Claude and Luc had to come up with another arrangement.
Luc had the idea of living separate lives - Claude would secretly be with Leith while Luc would be free to be with women as he pleased, and once a month, they would meet and try to concieve an heir, as was their marital duty. Leith wasn't ecstatic about the idea, but he agreed to it, knowing it was his only option if he wanted to be with Claude.
However, this three-way relationship soon took a toll on Leith, and when he nearly let a gravely-injured Luc die in the woods, he realised he had to end it. He saved Luc's life and leveraged it to earn money and lands from Stéphane. In addition, Leith vowed to leave French court and Claude, forever. Stéphane agreed and as soon as he drew up the papers, Leith rode away, in spite of Claude pleading him to stay.
