Louis was the fourth-born child to Henry II and Catherine de' Medici, the younger brother to Francis, Elisabeth, Claude and the elder brother to Henrietta, Emone, Charles and Henry III. He was also the younger half-brother of Sebastian and Clarissa. He was a born member of the House of Valois.
