— Lola to Elizabeth in No Way Out
|
Lady Lola Flemming Narcisse is a main character of Reign. She is a close friend of Mary Stuart and is one of Mary's ladies-in-waiting, along with Greer, Kenna, and Aylee. She is the mother of Francis's illegitimate son, Jean-Philippe, and Lord Narcisse's wife.
When first arriving at the French Court, she was excited to be reunited with Mary. Soon her boyfriend, Colin, arrived to surprise her. Thinking that everything was going perfect, Colin was soon executed for trying to rape Mary, by order of Queen Catherine and Lola blamed Mary for it. Later on, Lola betrayed Mary when she slept with Francis. Lola soon learned that she was pregnant and tried to get an abortion, but was stopped by Mary. Mary quickly connected the dots and realised that Lola was pregnant with Francis' child. Their friendship was ruined as Mary no longer trusted Lola and would never forgive her. Lola did not want Francis to know of the baby so Mary had to keep it a secret from her husband. Lola later found a husband thanks to Greer, who suggested Lord Julien and Lola eventually married him. However, a few months after their marriage, she discovered that he had been lying to her and using her for money as he planned to eventually leave her. He changed his mind and decided to stay with her. Soon after, she found out her husband's true identity due to Lord Julien's uncle Bartos appearing at their home. Lola accidentally killed Bartos and in order to cover it up, they set their home on fire and faked her husband's death, never seeing him again. Some time after leaving, Lola went into labour and gave birth to a baby boy.
She had planned to leave the French Court permanently, but soon found herself stuck at French Court after Francis refused to let her take the baby when holding him for the first time. Her friendship with Mary put them at odds but they eventually made up and Lola even asked her to be her son's godmother. Lola also began to feel an attraction to her new love interest, Lord Narcisse and continually tried to deny it. However, things took a turn when she saw a different side to him and how much he cared for her. After Catherine's exile, she confessed her love for him and after obtaining Francis' blessing, she married him. However, their short-lived marriage was soon destroyed when she found out of the treacheries he created in order to gain more power, having new hidden secrets and him cheating on her with Catherine. She then left him and went to England to save her family.
Lola was beheaded in Spiders in a Jar after conspiring to assassinate Elizabeth under what she believed to be Mary's orders. The assassination attempt was revealed to be the work of John Knox at the end of the episode.
Lady Lola was a member of the House of Narcisse by marriage.
She was portrayed by English actress, Anna Popplewell.

Throughout the Series[]
Personality[]
Lola is a sweet and gentle soul with a heart of gold and a desire for romance. She is sensitive, but not weak. In fact, she can be a bit outspoken at times. She is described as the strong one of the ladies-in-waiting by Catherine. Lola is protective of her family and friends, going to great lengths to protect them. In the end, she dies for her loyalty and doing what she believes is right.
Physical Appearance[]

Lola
Lola is a beautiful and slender young woman with full lips, light blue eyes, and long, dark curly hair that contrasts to her fair skin. From Higher Ground, one could also see her obvious pregnancy, which lasts until the end of the season.
Though her gowns were not as sensual or fashionable as Mary's or Kenna's, and she does not wear much jewelry or other accessories due to her lack of reliance on them, Lola's sense of personal fashion is still tasteful and elegant, with a preference for luxurious, romantic fabrics like silk and velvet. Hence, she is perfectly able to hold her own among her fashionably-dressed and richly-adorned friends.
"Lola read to me as the romantic, and I immediately thought of the iconic image of Ophelia in the water, surrounded by flowers. She became our romantic type and kind of the heroine. And that kind of turned into having a 1920s vibe to her, and I think a lot of those silhouettes look so beautiful on Anna. So we kept her in a lot of plums 'and burgundies and pinks and lavenders, and keeping her feminine but also strong at the same time, because her character speaks out and is opinionated." Meredith Markworth-Pollack about Lola.
