David Rizzio was a recurring character in the fourth season of Reign. He was portrayed by Andrew Shaver.
David was Queen Mary's most trusted secretary and advisor during her reign in Scotland. He was sent by Bash to deliver a prophecy about Mary's future. While helping Mary as she ruled Scotland, they formed a close friendship.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
David Rizzio was traveling from the Kingdom of Italy to the Kingdom of Scotland, after his cart broke he was captured by druids. Among them was Sebastian who forced him to deliver a message to Mary Stuart.
From a young age he worshipped his fellow Italian Catherine de' Medici, famous for her support of the arts, political intrigue and skill in poison and espionage.

Season Four[]
Rizzio travels to Scotland where he delivers Sebastian's prophecy to Mary. Afterwards, he joins Scottish Court, forming a front with Lord Bothwell. He proves his loyalty to Mary by using his relationship with Father Julian (Cardinal Odomo's secretary) to find out where the Vatican is meeting with Lord Darnley, Mary's husband.
In Coup de Grace, Rizzio warns Mary and Bothwell that Darnley and his men are coming. While Bothwell escapes the mob is determined to catch Mary in the act of adultery and accuses Rizzio of having an affair with Mary. The group doesn't believe it's actually true, as it is well established that Rizzio isn't interested in women. He is then stabbed by Darnley's supporters, Lord Ruthven stabs him to death.
Personality[]
Like Lord Bothwell, David says he would do anything for Mary, even if it costs him his own life which literally happened. His loyalty is met only by his love for fashion and partying. He has a great respect for his fellow Italian Catherine de' Medici.
Physical Appearance[]
Rizzio has long honey- colored hair, and dark eyes. He tends to wear fashionable brown leather.
Relationships[]
Mary Stuart: They became best friends and Mary accepted him for who he was.
Father Julian: The secretary of Cardinal Odomo who was Rizzio's lover for several months.

- In reality, Rizzio was also gay. What is not mentioned in the show, is that he was most likely a lover of Lord Darnley, Mary's husband.
- Rizzio is the fourth known homosexual in the series, after Philipe Nardin, Cardinal Perazzo and Randall. The fifth is Lord Ruthven.
- He is an expert in accounting.
